Mati City, Davao Oriental – Members of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) in the various parishes of the Diocese of Mati are undertaking measures to disseminate education-information on the Pro-life and Natural Family Planning (NFP) stance versus the misleading, Anti-life, Pro-contraceptive, abortifacient provisions of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill.
This was gathered by the DXHM news team from Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) coordinator Michelle Masucol who expressed interest on the part of the youth in Mati parishes early this year to partner with their Ates or older sisters in the CWL as well as the Family Life Apostolate (FLA) to help out in the planning and implementation of organized teachings on the RH Bill, Responsible Parenthood (RP), and NFP to insure an all-out defense of human life, particularly starting from the womb.
All-out promotion for Life, RP, and NFP ensued from the call for action initially voiced by CWL Diocesan President Sis. Norma Lanaban from the Baganga unit during the CWL Diocesan Assembly and Christmas Reunion held December 18, at the St. Therese Gym, Clergy House compound, Madang, Mati City.
Sis. Lanaban purposely used the occasion in the name of the diocesan group of vicariates to inform everyone present, especially Bishop Patricio Alo and CWL Spiritual Director Fr. Celso Singson, parish priest of the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral, as well as other attending guest priests, religious sisters, and members of the Catholic media, and to mobilize in particular the 130 CWL delegates (and other members prevented from traveling due to the inclement weather) representing the 19 parishes of the diocese.
The CWL President explained that this purpose was discerned during the previous consecutive monthly diocesan officers’ meetings every 3rd Sunday of the month wherein they kept up their study and discussion on the RH Bill vis-à-vis perceived gradual weakening of family ties and respect for human life, and also, in line with the CWL National Plan through National President Dr. Carmelita Go and the NFP campaign of Archbishop Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro.
To actively achieve this purpose, the CWL official explained that they would be coordinating with the Family Life Apostolate (FLA) units of the 19 different parishes of the diocese and any other interested group in the parish or community regarding the necessary activities to be jointly undertaken.
Sis. Lanaban also challenged the ladies to strengthen the Junior or younger CWL units who will eventually replace the “greater number of aging generation,” while also acknowledging the CWL Vicariate of Mati for hosting the venue preparations and having the largest 50-strong members present for the year-end activity.
In line with the spirit of the season, Fr. Singson reminded the ladies that, “amidst the busy material concerns of the season, one must not forget the true meaning of Christmas which is the celebration of the Selfless, Saving Gift of the Father in the birth to humanity of His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ…to which the CWL in Charity, Work, and Loyalty, responds in loving Selfless Service to Protect Life at all costs.”
